BOOK OF THE WEEK: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

What's the Book?

The Book of the Week is called the War of Art by Steven Pressfield.

It makes a big promise.

It claims to show you how to "Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles".

Be warned.

The War of Art is big on the concept of Resistance.

Who Wrote the Book?

The author is Steven Pressfield.

After graduating from Duke University in the USA, he joined the Marine Corps in 1966.

In the years following, he has worked as an advertising copywriter, schoolteacher, tractor trailer driver, bartender, mental hospital attendant, fruit picker and screenwriter.

His struggles to succeed as an author are detailed in The War of Art.

How is the Book Structured?

The War of Art is divided into 3 sections.

They are titled Resistance, Combating Resistance and Beyond Resistance.

The second part is my favourite part.

It's packed with tips on how to take a professional as opposed to an amateur approach to your work.

I'm not so sure about the third part but you may think differently when you read it.

Who Should Read the Book?

Read The War of Art if you habitually put things off, find excuses to delay action and take your time before doing important work.

The book is written for anyone who battles with resistance In their quest to succeed in their field.

That definitely includes me.

And I suspect you as well!
