One Year On

Madam, you gave me a golden chance in 1997 to work in commercial broadcasting.

I was blessed to work with a team of talented individuals you recruited for Kapital 97.1 in Kumasi.

You gave us the freedom to run the show and that is exactly what we did!

You made us responsible for production, presentation, promotions, pretty much the whole package!

You were an inspiring, groundbreaking leader who guided us through those exciting days in Kumasi.

Long after I left the Kapital 97.1, I continued to stay in touch with Madam.

When Dzifa and I got married in February 2004, she honoured us by agreeing to be the chairperson at our reception.

We were in contact over the years and I bumped into her a couple of times in Accra.

I was filled with deep sadness when I heard of her passing.

Scrolling through my phone messages 18 days ago, I came across this exchange with Madam.

I'm sure she would give me permission to share it with you.

27th May 2018. 10:11AM. WhatsApp message from me to Mrs Agyemang:

"I appreciate you Madam. You gave me a huge opportunity 21 years ago and I can never forget you. Keep shining."

Mrs Agyemang responds same day at 10:50AM

'I thank you for your kind words but you were a good boy too. I remember your sacrifices. May the good Lord bless all who contributed to make history in Kumasi. Stay blessed."

Madam, you were a good woman.
We remember your sacrifices.
May the good Lord be with you.

You contributed.
You made history.
May you stay blessed.

Forever.
